Every community needs a healthy business climate. However, in their zeal to promote business interests within our community, many of the current members of the Council have forgotten their duty to the City of Burbank. Thus, when it was recently revealed that the Burbank Hospitality Association had misappropriated $50,000 in public funds toward the promotion of a ballot measure, the Council did not meet its obligation of oversight when it failed to conduct a public hearing on the matter, as required by law. While this does not necessarily indicate the Council’s complicity in the malfeasance, it does indicate that those currently serving on the Council may not fully understand their duty to the people of Burbank.
